Nurturing communication & connection through speech therapy
Meet Rebecca Brewster M.S. CCC-SLP
Hello and welcome to Storybook Speech Services! My name is Rebecca Brewster. I am a pediatric speech and language therapist with more than a dozen years of experience working with kids in both private practice and school settings.
I enjoy children’s literature and started Storybook Speech Services to help children expand their communication skills: enhance their expressive language, improve their listening comprehension, and increase their speech intelligibility all while advocating for their unique and individualized needs.
I'm a mama to three young kids, a Long Beach native, and an active member of our community. I’m so glad you’ve found me, and I can't wait to help you and your family!

Screenings & Evaluations
If you're wondering whether your child needs speech therapy, a screening and/or assessment can help. I provide standardized tests to determine areas of need as well as strength-based evaluations of your child's communication differences and your priorities for therapy.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
How much do the services cost and what forms of payment do you take?Depending on the recommended service, in-home sessions are typically one “clinical” hour including direct therapy with the child and parent education/support at the rate of $150 per session. Half hour sessions are also available for school-based therapy or homeschooling groups at the rate of $80 per session. Family consultations and IEP support and training costs vary depending on the need. Please contact me for more information. Payments are made through my EMR (electronic medical record) system that will keep your debit/credit card on file and automatically bill at the time of service. No cash payments or personal checks will be accepted at this time.
-
Do you take insurance?Currently, I only accept private pay clients. I do not bill insurance; however, I can provide you with a Superbill or medical receipt that you may submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
-
Who do you work with?I am currently working with children ranging from 1 to 12 years old, specializing in early interventions in the following areas of speech and language: speech sound disorders, language delays, alternative and augmentative communication, executive functioning, and pragmatics. I also love supporting the grownups in a child’s life, to help them help their child with their communication needs!
-
Where do you provide services?I offer speech therapy and consultation services in clients' homes and at community locations such as local parks, private schools, and churches in Long Beach, CA and surrounding areas. I also offer a limited amount of clients teletherapy- online services in the state of California.
-
What is your availability?Therapy sessions are available Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. If a different day or time is needed, please contact me so we can work something out!
-
Do we have to start with an evaluation?Yes, all services and needs will be determined based on an initial assessment of your child’s speech and language concerns. Evaluations are typically our first session or two and you will receive a written report documenting results and recommendations. Assessments start at $300.
-
Why should I choose Storybook Speech Services? There is no long waitlist or waiting for approval from insurance! There are no requirements to meet regarding sessions lengths and frequency or testing scores and eligibility. We decide together what we want to work on and how we will reach your child's goals! As a child-led, strength-based therapist, I will work hard to ensure your child will enjoy therapy and be motivated, which will help us see improvement faster! Location flexibility means I can meet you where you’d like! I offer multiple options to fit my clients' needs. And finally, I individualize and tailor my services to your child's needs. I will support you and your child in achieving desired outcomes!
-
My pediatrician says we should “wait and see” if my child catches up, but I’m concerned! How do I know if my child needs speech and language therapy?Early intervention services are always beneficial. The “wait and see” school of thought is outdated and new research suggests the earlier you get support, the better the outcome. Trust your instincts and if you have concerns, reach out and I can let you know what options you have or if interventions would be helpful.
